Month
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month,
a time to focus on the protection and care of our most vulnerable
and trusting. Child Abuse Prevention Month
has been observed each April since its first presidential
proclamation in 1983. Since that time, individuals and organizations
have joined together during April to raise the public’s
awareness of child abuse and its prevention. This year SCAN
is selling dark blue ribbon car magnets Please

or pick up a blue ribbon or a bag of ribbons for your group
or organization. During the entire month, we
celebrate the children and recognize all of the people who
volunteer their time and effort to our cause. Among those
events sponsored by Exchange/SCAN to draw attention to child
abuse prevention are the Ring Out Against Child abuse held
on Monday, April 3rd st at the Children’s Choice Learning
Center at WFUBMC. Small children will ring their bells in
unison to bring the community together to examine the message
of Child Abuse Prevention. On Thursday, April 20th Exchange/SCAN
and dozens of other local agencies host a Celebration for
Children event on Thursday afternoon from 5:30pm until 8:00pm.
Agencies from all over the triad will join at the Hanes Mall
Belk court area to see Snoopy, Chick-fil-a Cow, WSSU Ram, and many other favorites. Face painting,
balloons, singing, dancing and coloring are among the children
activities. Center stage will include performances by area
dance groups, choruses, gymnastics, Tai-Kwon-Do and more.
Children enjoy the event and we are able to reach parents
and give them vital information. Please, come and join us
for a jam-packed evening of fun and entertainment. On Thursday,
April 27th we show our appreciation to the many volunteers
with a Volunteer Recognition Dinner. At this event, we present
awards to volunteers in each of our programs showing exemplary
commitment to helping families in need. There are many exciting
